يملك المؤلف والمتحدث ميرلين مان توجهاً مختلفاً لإبعاد التسويف جانباً: فواصل تمتد على ثماني دقائق أو ما يكفي لإنجاز أمر ما. إسمحوا لي هنا أن أسهب قليلا في هذا الموضوع.

يصف المؤلف هذه التقنية بأنها فورة قصير من الجهد المركز على مهمة معينة تقضي على الحاجة إلى التسويف التي تنغّص حياتنا ووفقا لـ"دايف ألن" مؤلف كتاب "جي تي دي GTD Getting Things أو إنجاز الأمور بالعربية والذي أنصحكم بشدة بقراءته أيضا، فإن التسويف هو في الواقع المصدر الحقيقي للتوتر الذي نشعر به في حياتنا.

بإستخدامه ثلاثة أنواع من الفواصل يصبح مان هو المثال الحي على نجاجه: فواصل وقتية، وفواصل قائمة على الوحدات وفواصل تجمع بين الأمرين في الوقت نفسه.

يتطلب النوع الأول من الفواصل أن يكون لديك جهاز توقيت وأن تحدد باستخدامه وقتا معينا للعمل على إنجاز مهمة ما خلاله. عند إنتهاء هذه المدة ستشعر بأنك حققت إنجازا ما. ينصح مان بأن تكون مدة الفواصل ثمان دقائق بالرغم من أنه بحسب تجربتي الشخصية يمكن أن تختلف هذه المدة بحسب الشخص. حدد المدة التي تناسبك وأطلعنا عليها في المكان المخصص للتعليقات.

تتطلب مهام أخرى توجهاً يقوم على النتائج بشكل أكبر وهنا يأتي دور الفواصل القائمة على الوحدات التي تساعد على تقييم الأداء كعدد الصفحات والصحون التي تم تنظيفها وعدد الكلمات التي قمنا بقرائتها....

أما النوع الثالث من الفواصل المدمجة فأرغب من جهتي أن أطلق عليه إسم "فواصل أفضل الجهود" والتي تعتمد على كونك توقفت عند إطار زمني محدد أو أنجزت الوحدة قبل ذلك. وبالرغم من أنها طريقة على قدر من الصعوبة حيث قد تدفعك إلى إتخاذ قرار بتقسيم المهمة إلى أجزاء صغيرة بحيث تناسب عدد الدقائق لذلك من الأجدى أن تقوم بذلك بعد التأكد من فعالية الطريقتين الأولى والثانية.
